He was born in Newark, New Jersey on August 25, 1954 to mother Rosalie and father Woody Shaw Sr. His older brother Woody Shaw was a Grammy-nominated jazz musician.

He attended Northwestern University where he was named All Big 10 in 1977.

As a professional football player in the NFL, Pete Shaw played 5 years with the San Diego Chargers and 3 years with the New York Giants.

 He played under some of the greatest coaches in football history such as Don Coryell, Bill Parcells, and Bill Belichick, who have all recognized Pete as a strong and natural leader among his teammates.

At Safety, Pete Shaw was a dominating force against the opposition in the defensive backfield and in the kicking game. He was well known for his hard hitting style of play and his tough, no nonsense attitude.

For over two decades, he held the San Diego Chargers record for the most interceptions in a single game.Over his professional career, he was named Defensive Rookie of the Week in 1978, and was honored by his teammates and coaches with over 20 game balls.

After his football career ended in 1985, Pete pursued a career as a financial advisor, and he has been helping others achieve their financial goals for over 30 years. He is a trusted advisor of many current and former professional athletes. He enjoys spending time with his family, and he frequently appears at charity fundraisers, golf tournaments, and other special events nationwide.
